Arriving in Dhaka
International flights land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in the north of the city. After immigration and baggage claim, allow extra time at busy arrival hours.
Ride-hailing apps, airport taxis and pre-arranged pickups are the usual ways into the city. Traffic in Dhaka can be heavy, so a trip that looks short on a map can take much longer.
When to visit
The cooler, drier months from roughly November to February are the most comfortable for travel. The monsoon season, roughly June to September, brings heavy rain.
Flights are busiest around Eid and the December holidays, when many families from the US travel home. Search early if you plan to fly then.
Before you fly
Check entry requirements with the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, D.C. or your nearest consulate. Requirements depend on your passport and can change.
Review your airline's baggage allowance for Bangladesh routes, and keep medicines and valuables in your carry-on.
Onward travel
Dhaka is the hub for domestic flights to Sylhet, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and other cities. If your final stop is elsewhere in Bangladesh, compare one through ticket with a separate domestic flight.
